Eligibility
|
An individual is eligible for membership in the corporation only if the individual served honorably as a member of the Armed Forces of the United States –
- In a foreign war, insurrection, or expedition in service that –
- Has been recognized as campaign-medal service; and
- Is governed by the authorization of the award of a campaign badge by the United States Government;
- On the Korean peninsula or in territorial waters for at least 30 consecutive days, or a total of 60 days, after 30 Jun 1949; or
- In an area which entitled the individual to receive special pay for duty subject to hostile fire or imminent danger under Section 310 of Title 37.
Persons in the armed forces of the United States shall become eligible for membership immediately upon arrival on hostile soil, in hostile waters or the airspace above in the performance of service qualifying such persons for membership.
Proof of service to establish eligibility for membership rests with the applicant.

About the Membership
|
VFW Post 5985 membership is available at an annual cost of $30.00. Or join as a Member-At-Large for an annual cost of $35.00. Lifetime memberships are also available and are often more cost effective and convenient. Please see chart below for pricing. Your VFW membership can support Post 5985 specifically or you join as a member-at-large.
Membership with Post 5985 allows entry to all VFW Posts worldwide.

NOTE: When choosing either the 12 or 24 month installment option, an initial cost of $35 pertains which covers the initial payment and an administrative set-up fee. EFFECTIVE 1 JULY 2010, THE 24 MONTH LIFE PAY OPTION IS BEING DISCONTINUED. Those currently enrolled will continue with the 24 month payment plan.
